~ From My T Matters FaceBook page:
Transgender Women Needed for HIV Vaccine Research Study

(Boston) Brigham and Women’s Hospital researchers are seeking HIV-negative male-to-female transgender persons who have sex with men to participate in a vaccine trial to determine the safety and effectiveness of an investigational HIV vaccine.

HIV vaccine facts:

• In the past 15 years, more than 30,000 volunteers have enrolled in HIV vaccine studies worldwide.
• In the past 10 years, we have enrolled hundreds of volunteers at our site in Boston, including participants who are at both low and high risk for HIV exposure.
• It is not possible to contract HIV from the study vaccines.
• Estimated HIV infection rates among specific transgender populations range from 14% to 69% according to several transgender HIV/AIDS needs assessments and sexual risk behaviors studies.*

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you meet the following criteria:

• HIV negative male-to-female transgender person
• 18-50 years in age
• Have had sex with a man in the past 6 months
• Are able to come to study visits for at least 1 year

All participants receive confidential HIV counseling and testing at no cost. Compensation is also provided.

FACT: You cannot get HIV from participating in an HIV Vaccine Research Study.

Worldwide there are more than 40 million people infected with HIV/AIDS, and a projected 90 million people who could be HIV-infected by the year 2010. As of today, there is no vaccine to prevent people from getting HIV/AIDS, only drugs to treat the disease once someone is infected.

Here at BWH we are conducting studies (clinical trials) in hopes of finding a vaccine that prevents HIV/AIDS. We are currently recruiting healthy, transgender women ages 18 - 50, who have an interest in helping the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is not possible to get HIV infection from our study vaccines because they do not contain any live or killed HIV.

With your help we can continue our research efforts to find an HIV/AIDS vaccine. Volunteers like you are a crucial part in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and your contribution as a volunteer in a clinical trial is very much appreciated.
